Oral semaglutide 25mg in adults with obesity/overweight.
How It Works
Oral Wegovy works identically to injectable Wegovy once absorbed — it activates GLP-1 receptors to reduce appetite, increase satiety, and slow gastric emptying. The key difference is the delivery: the tablet uses an absorption enhancer (SNAC) to protect semaglutide from stomach acid, but this requires strict fasting conditions for proper absorption.
Mechanism: Oral Wegovy uses the same semaglutide molecule as injectable Wegovy but in a tablet form with an absorption enhancer (SNAC/salcaprozate sodium). Oral bioavailability is only ~1%, requiring much higher mg doses than the injectable. The tablet must be taken on an empty stomach in the morning to ensure proper absorption.
Who It's For
Indication
Chronic weight management (obesity or overweight with comorbidities)
Adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) with at least one weight-related condition who prefer a pill over injections but can commit to the morning fasting requirement. Not ideal for patients who cannot take medications on an empty stomach reliably.
Food & Water Restrictions
⚠️ Restrictions Apply
Must take in the morning on an empty stomach with ≤4oz plain water. Wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medications. Tablets must be swallowed whole.
